Designated Substance Reviews
Designated substances, such as lead paint, asbestos, mercury, and PCBs, are commonly found in building materials used in residential, commercial, and industrial structures. Before any renovation or demolition work begins, a designated substance survey is essential to identify the presence, quantity, handling, and disposal requirements of these hazardous materials.
Under Section 30 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Ontario Regulation 490/09, property owners must determine if designated substances are present and inform contractors before proceeding with contracts. ASC Environmental’s experienced team conducts thorough assessments, helping clients identify, manage, and mitigate risks associated with these substances, ensuring compliance and safeguarding the health and safety of workers and the public.
